Merthyr Tydfil 2 Cwmaman Institute FC 0
2nd November 2007 (League Cup Group A)
Confidence was high going into this game with a real belief that we could get a positive result however it was not to be.
Cwm started brightly, working hard closing down and pressurising the home side however neither team created any clear cut chances as the first half finished goalless.
Again it was the away side that started the half on the offensive and should have gone ahead when Kristian Boyce was through with only the keeper to beat but his touch let him down. After that Merthyr took control of the game retaining possession well and started to create clear cut chances. The breakthrough came when Dorian Cooke got caught the wrong side of the striker from a through ball and in an attempt to recover brought the player down for a clear penalty which was finished well given Kurt Rogers no chance. Cwmaman continued to battle without possessing any real goal threat, but lost their discipline when both teams got involved over what seemed to be an innocuous challenge. As Cwm pushed forward they were caught on the break and the home side made it 2v0 with a good finish and that’s how it finished. This was Cwm’s first defeat we must now show character to bounce back and that qualification is still in our own hands with 2 home games left we know that 2 wins would see us through.

Seven Sisters 0 Cwmaman Institute FC 3
12th October 2007 (League Cup Group A)
3 weeks without a game Cwmaman returned to action knowing a win would put them top of the group.
With a quality squad to choose from, some were left disappointed, as others were given their opportunity.
The first 5 – 10 minutes were even then Cwm started to get their passing game going and in midfield Richard Williams started to impose himself thus combined with the pace of Jack Howe who was like a young Ryan Giggs bombing down the left hand side, and the movement of Daniel Johnson who ran the home defence ragged and Matthew Morgan making his debut for the club also worked tirelessly up front were creating chances and it seemed a question of when the away side would score not if. Daniel Johnson almost scored from a near post corner but the keeper saved on the line, but the same player should have scored when he was free at the back post but could only head straight at the keeper when he had time to control and shoot. Other chances fell to Williams, Morgan and Howe but neither could convert as somehow the away side failed to break through as the first half ended goalless.
At half time Cwm made another change after being forced to make an earlier substitution with Corey Hollidge replacing Liam Bachelor after half hour as he was lucky to stay on the pitch after directly swearing at the ref. Kristian Boyce was switched from right wing to partner Daniel Johnson up front with Matthew Morgan making way for Darren john who slotted into right wing. Within 3 minutes of the second half Ole Gunnar John had an immediate impact as he scored with his first touch after a good ball through by Hollidge, John took it early under pressure with his hot deceiving the keeper giving the away side a deserved lead. The home side rallied and this brought Kurt Rogers to the fore who had very little to do till that point was called upon to produce a magnificent save to preserve Cwm’s lead. In response to the home side’s pressure Cwm brought on Anthony Hatch replacing Lewis Hodder. Again the substitute had an impact after good interplay between Howe, Hatch and Johnson down the left Hatch played in Johnson who burst into the penalty area and drove the ball low and hard across the keeper into the bottom right corner. Cwm added a third shortly after, a touch of route one, Kristian Boyce raced onto a long kick by Kurt to slide the ball home for 3 v 0. Cwm retained possession well the last quarter and the defence which again was well marshalled by the captain Scott Woodford saw the game out with another clean sheet and three points. Cwm now sit top of the group with seven points from 3 games. However no one is getting carried away as we must continue to work hard and show the right attitude if were to continually improve and build on this encouraging start.

AFC Llwydcoed 0 Cwmaman Institute FC 0
21st September 2007 (League Cup Group A)
Cwmaman made the short trip to local rivals Llwydcoed in confident mood after a 2v0 win the previous week. With a large squad to choose from a few changes were made.
First half
The game started like a typical derby with both teams attempting to gain control early on. Cwmaman started brightly with some good periods of possession but without any cutting edge up front were unable to test the keeper. Left back Nicky Bevan had a couple of long range efforts that just missed and was providing a good outlet down the left hand side. The best chance of the first half fell to Darren John however he failed to get his shot off in time which enabled the home defence to clear. Coed came into the game and posed more of a threat resulting in Kurt Rodgers in the Cwm goal who had very little to do make a good save down low to his left. The first half finished goalless with the away team just edging it.
Second half
Again Cwm started the half brightly however the second half failed to match expectations as it petered out. Substitute Corey Hollidge had Cwm’s best chance after good work by the other substitute Kristian Boyce with the keeper doing well to save. Cwm used all their substitutes and tried everything but the quality in the final third just wasn’t there. Coed only created half chances as Cwm’s back four and GK never really looked like conceding but at the other end never really looked like scoring as they ran out of ideas against a well organised defence. An evenly matched second half there was nothing to separate the two teams with the final score O v O, at the end both teams seemed content with a point. Cwm must take the positives from this game with some players getting a much needed run out, another clean sheet and top of the group after two games played. Cwm will hope to return to winning ways with the next game at home to Britton Ferry on the 5th of October.
Squad: Rodgers, Woodford, Lowther, Cryer, Bevan, Woodford, Davies, Trampelli, Johnson, Smith, John,
Subs: Boyce (60), Howe (60), Hollidge (70) , Hodder

Cwmaman Institute FC 2 Pontyclun 0
14th September 2007 (League Cup Group A)
After the hard work through preseason expectations were high going into the open game not knowing what to expect from the opposition who are newcomers to this level.
First half
The first 10 minutes was non eventful although Cwmaman try to get their passing game going they were pressed quickly by their opponents. The first chance of the game fell to the visitors a long ball caused confusion in the Cwmaman defence which allowed the striker to nip in and go round Kurt in the Cwmaman goal but fortunately Jack Howe was on hand to clear off the line. This seemed to spark Cwmaman into life as they gradually gained control of the midfield with Sean Woodford working hard as ever winning the battle allowing Corry Hollidge and man of the match Leigh Davies getting on the ball and dictating play providing the spring board to attack and get Daniel Johnson and Kristian Boyce in the game. 20 min gone and now the front three of Daniel Johnson who led the line tirelessly with Ross Vaughn and Kristian Boyce wide were now combining well starting to get behind the visitors defence just the final ball or finish was lacking as the home side failed to trouble the keeper apart from a free kick by Ross Vaughn which was heading for the top corner but the keeper did well to tip over. A change in formation by the management team enabled the home side to assert a sustained period of pressure as Cwmaman finished the half strongly although had to rely on Kurt Rodgers to keep them in it with some smart saves at the other end. The first half finished goalless
Second Half
Cwmaman started the second half as they ended the first playing some excellent football but still the finishing was lacking as Kristian Boyce missed 2 one on ones. Cwmaman were in complete control but without reward to show for their efforts. Fullbacks Howe and Cryer were now getting further forward pushing the visitors back. The home side were finally rewarded after 62 minutes with an element of luck as Ross Vaughn hit a speculative shot which the away keeper who looked assured until that point fumbled in to the net to give Cwmaman a deserved lead. The lead was shortly doubled when Boyce turned and shot just inside the penalty area on 67 minutes this time he found the net, again the keeper was at fault as he mishandled. Cwmaman made three substitutions with the impressive Corry Hollidge replaced by Darren John and Ross Vaughn was replaced by Hatch who looked sharp when coming on and Daniel Johnson was replaced by Lewis Hosgood as Cwmaman looked to see the game out. They rarely looked troubled at the back with the back four looking solid with Scott Woodford in commanding form. The visitors were reduced to 10 men for swearing at the ref and were fortunate not to be reduce to 9 when the keeper brought down Boyce when clean through he escaped with a yellow. Cwmaman continued to retain possession well
Constantly keeping the play on the ground with short sharp passing and always looking to play from the back. Pontyclun rallied late on to their credit, but after taking the lead their only looked like one winner withy the final score Cwm 2 Pontyclun 0. The management were pleased with the performance especially second half and with a clean sheet. With a big squad to choose from everyone will play a part as we look to build on this positive start with the next game being a local derby away to Llwydcoed.
